A new Terrence Malick film is always a cause for celebration, and it’s splendid that this vaunted poet-philosopher has upped his work rate since the prolonged hiatus between 1978’s Days of Heaven and 1998’s The Thin Red Line.
It just so happens that his latest, Knight of Cups, is yet another to add to the teetering stack of major works. It sees Christian Bale as a comedy movie writer (!) who wants to take stock of his life and status and so dives headlong into a swirling vortex of spiritual and romantic enlightenment.
The film is another example of Malick’s mode of sensory bombardment, as first trialled with his masterful 2011 feature, The Tree of Life and continued/honed in 2012’s To the Wonder. Check out the brand new trailer and UK quad poster below and get a taste of the insanely gorgeous imagery this special film has to offer.
Knight of Cups is set for release in UK cinemas from 6 May.
