In reality, the prospect of entrenched corruption within the police force is not exactly a comforting one. On screen, however, it’s something quite different. Irish writer/director John Michael McDonagh’s highly anticipated third feature, War on Everyone, follows the misadventures of two bent coppers, Bob Balaño (Michael Peña) and Terry Monroe (Alexander Skarsgård), who revel in framing and blackmailing the criminals of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Following his worldwide hit comedy The Guard and critically acclaimed drama Calvary, McDonagh’s distinctive wit looks to have come into its own in this sweary action comedy. It really does speak volumes when two police officers crowded in a toilet cubicle (with the criminal whose drugs they are now taking) hear sirens and shout “Shit, cops!” only to remember that they are in fact the cops. On that reassuring note, here’s a new trailer for the film.
War on Everyone is in cinemas 30 September.
