Watch the stunning first trailer for The Assassin

One of our favourite films from the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, Taiwanese master Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s dazzling first foray into the wuxia genre now has an equally impressive trailer.

Eight years in the making, The Assassin transports us to 9th century China, where 10-year-old general’s daughter Nie Yinniang (Qi Shu) is abducted by a nun and transformed her into a world-class assassin. She returns to her homeland a woman, with orders to kill the man to whom she was promised.

Take a look at this first UK teaser and make a note of the release date: 22 January.
