The title of this upcoming detective series may not inspire much confidence that it will be the next must-see Netflix Original show – but in Fincher we trust.
For Mindhunter, the Zodiac and Gone Girl director has teamed up with Charlize Theron, Anna Torv and Holt McCallany (who previously starred in Fincher’s Alien 3 and Fight Club) for this adaptation of the 1996 book ‘Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit’ by former special agent John Douglas and Mark Olshaker.
Douglas’ book offers crucial behind-the-scenes insight into several high-profile murder cases which he personally worked on, although it’s unclear from this teaser exactly which specific case(s) Fincher has homed in on.
What we do know is that the series is set in 1979 – prime Fincher territory – and that it centres on FBI Agent Bill Tench (McCallany), who is assigned to investigate a string of rapes, serial killings and other sordid crimes. With one of America’s greatest living directors at the helm, we’re confident this will more than live up to its initial promise.
Mindhunter premieres globally on Netflix in October.
