Damien Chazelle’s La La Land gets a heav­en­ly first trailer

Watch Ryan Gosling ser­e­nade Emma Stone in the first look at the director’s fol­low-up to Whiplash.

There’s a dash of Old Hol­ly­wood mag­ic in the melo­di­ous first trail­er for Damien Chazelle’s third fea­ture. La La Land sees Crazy, Stu­pid, Love (and Gang­ster Squad, but let’s not focus on that) co-stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling reunite to play an aspir­ing Hol­ly­wood actress and a jazz pianist respectively.

Notably soft­er in both tex­ture and tone than Chazelle’s Oscar-sweep­ing 2014 film, Whiplash, this looks an alto­geth­er more bit­ter­sweet affair, with the piano bal­lad Gosling plays filled with romance and melan­choly. La La Land is set for its world pre­mière on 31 August at the Venice Film Fes­ti­val. Watch Gosling and Stone waltz in sil­hou­ette against a star­ry back­drop and pre­pare to fall in love.
