A Cure for Wellness gets a creepy, stylish first trailer

Words by Adam Woodward

Take a first look at Gore Verbinski’s upcoming psychological thriller.

Gore Verbinski is one of cinema’s great big-scale visual storytellers, but his latest, A Cure for Wellness, is a more low-key prospect than we’re used to seeing from him. Based on an original script by Verbinski and Justin Haythe, this atmospheric-looking sci-fi tells of a go-getting young executive (Dane DeHaan) who uncovers a sinister secret at a Swiss wellness” clinic where his boss has mysteriously disappeared.

The film looks closer in tone and style to the director’s earlier The Ring than the Pirates franchise with which he made his name, and there appears to be an Enemy-style psychological undertow at play. Exactly what the cure’ referred to in the title is is anyone’s guess – although there may be a clue in the creepy official poster which has also just been released. A Cure for Wellness is set for release March 2017.
