Carey Mulligan plays a lovelorn 1960s housewife in the actor’s impressive directorial debut.

The toast of this year’s Sundance Film Festival and just recently the Critics Week sidebar in Cannes, where it screened in the opening gala slot, Paul Dano’s directorial debut is one of 2018’s most anticipated releases.

Co-written with Zoe Kazan, Wildlife is based on Richard Ford’s novel of the same name and stars Carey Mulligan (last seen in Dee Rees’ Mudbound) as Jeanette, a complex, strong-willed woman who defies the social expectations of the 1960s housewife by leaving her golf pro husband (Jake Gyllenhaal) for another man.

Set in smalltown Montana, it’s an intimate, bittersweet portrait of a broken marriage set against a backdrop of social unrest. Look out for newcomer Ed Oxenbould, whose breakout performance is one of the film’s major talking points.

Wildlife is released on 19 October in the US and 9 November in the UK. Check out the first official trailer below at share your thoughts with us @LWLies
