Watch the new trailer for Murder on the Orient Express

Words by Adam Woodward

A sneak peek of how Kenneth Branagh has brought this classic Agatha Christie text to life once more.

You do have to ask yourself – would the greatest detective in the world introduce themselves as the greatest detective in the world? Surely he would have enough modesty to allow others to make that adjudication?

Anyway, Kenneth Branagh stars in a directs this fruity looking murder mystery ripped from the pages of Agatha Christie’s classic text in which a luxury train trip comes to a crashing halt when one of the passengers is murdered. A carriage full of A-list suspects remains, with Johnny Depp donning a pencil moustache to reprise his beloved role of Mortdecai.

From this first trailer, it looks to be a lavish, big-budget romp for all the family, even if the long tracking sequence in the middle does feel very theatrical. Yet, it seems from the square-on shots through moving train windows that Branagh has clearly taking some top directing tips from the master of capturing trains on film, Wes Anderson.

Daisy Ridley, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penelope Cruz, Josh Gad, Michael Peña, Judi Dench, Leslie Odom Jr, Derek Jacobi all star, but we’re most excited about the fact that the great Olivia Colman is getting a big budget run-out. The film is released in UK cinemas on 3 November this year.
