Michael Fassbender severs family ties in the Trespass Against Us trailer

He clashes with Brendan Gleeson in this upcoming Irish crime drama.

It’s actually pretty strange to see a film in which leading man Michael Fassbender doesn’t have muck caked all over his face or is wearing some vintage threads to make him look like an 18th century assassin. In Adam Smith’s debut feature, Trespass Against Us, all we get is a bright checked shirt and a cheeky smile, as he plays a traveller who also has a nice little sideline in getaway driving. He goes toe-to-toe with that other Irish acting heavyweight, Brendan Gleeson, who plays his father, a man who strives to keep his son interested in the various criminal plots he has brewing.

This first trailer teases the traveller family and we get to see a bit of free-form field driving with a cackling schoolboy at the wheel. And then we get a lovely bit of parallel editing as we segue into Fassbender skidding along in a balaclava with fleeing from a crime scene. The film started its life at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival and is set to drop into UK cinemas on 3 March, and we’re excited to see if the final product can match the stellar talent in front of the camera.
