The Dan­ish writer/​director promis­es to take us on a tour of LA’s dark crim­i­nal underbelly.

Cars, guns, tarot cards, neon-soaked skin and a puls­ing synth sound­track: it’s fair to say that Nico­las Wind­ing Refn’s lat­est project is very much with­in his wheelhouse.

The Dan­ish writer/director’s fol­low-up to 2016’s The Neon Demon is a 10-part Ama­zon series explor­ing the crim­i­nal under­bel­ly of Los Ange­les via its char­ac­ters’ exis­ten­tial jour­neys. Essen­tial­ly it’s about a group of killers nav­i­gat­ing the City of Angels, and it sounds right up our street.

Cre­at­ed by Refn and Ed Brubak­er, the show stars William Bald­win, Celesti­no Cornielle, Nell Tiger Free, John Hawkes, Miles Teller and Jena Mal­one. Judg­ing by this ear­ly glimpse, which isn’t so much a trail­er as a rapid-fire mon­tage of intox­i­cat­ing images, Too Old To Die Young will be one of the must-see tele­vi­sion events of 2019.
