Apostasy, heresy and eating blood are just some of these sisters’ sins…

Promisingly described as pure trash” by the Catholic League, The Little Hours stars Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, and Kate Micucci as pissed off nuns who have grown tired of their monastic life.

Their bickering, spying and bullying is happily interrupted by the arrival of a sexy new farmhand named Massetto, played by Dave Franco.

Fleeing to the convent after angering his previous master, a king played by Nick Offerman, Massetto pretends to be a deaf mute to discourage temptation. He struggles to keep his cover in the pandemonium that his arrival causes in the repressed convent.

This is the third feature written and directed by Jeff Baena, after 2014’s Life After Beth and 2016’s Joshy. The Little Hours also stars John C Reilly and Fred Armisen as clergymen trying to keep the nuns in check.

The film is based on a collection of 14th century Italian novellas called The Decameron’, known for their wit, tragedy and eroticism. The Decameron’ also inspired The Canterbury Tales’ as well as Pier Paolo Pasolini’s 1971 film The Decameron’.

The Little Hours premiered at Sundance’s Midnight section this year, and received generally positive reviews. Let us pray that it’s as funny as this trailer suggests.
