Watch the trailer to one of 2016’s best (and weirdest) movies

12 Jul 2016

Words by David Jenkins

The final film by the late Polish maestro Andrzej Zulawski comes to cinemas this August.

If you go down to the woods today… you might find that some deranged soul has murdered a bunch of innocent woodland animals, and even tried to hang a block of wood from a tree. Cosmos is the final feature by Polish iconoclast Andrzej Zulawski, who sadly died in February 2016 just after the film’s world premier. He’s a filmmaker best known for his notorious Berlin-set horror-thriller, Possession, from 1981, which famously contained a scene of Isabelle Adjani loudly miscarrying an alien being in an U‑Bahn subway. His style is one characterised by manic energy and high delirium – it’s rare that he’ll film a shot where the camera sits perfectly still. This new film is no exception, as we swirl and shimmy between the characters as they carry out their surreal philosophical conversations. This first trailer gives you a small taster of the madness, with the film dropping into UK cinemas on 19 August. If you’d like our advice, it’s definitely one to mark in your diary.
