The British actor reads Shakespeare in this drone-lit dramatic short by Jamie Whitby.

Isle Full of Noises is the latest short film from up-and-coming British director Jamie Whitby, featuring specially-commissioned narration by British acting heavyweight David Oyelowo (Selma, A United Kingdom).

The short is an interpretation of Calilban’s mysterious ‘Be Not Afeard’ monologue from Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’. Oyelowo’s soft, lilting voiceover plays over an interpretive performance from Edward Kagutuzi and Michael Ajao with dance collective Sigh.

Shot at night using a hand-built drone lighting rig, corners of the darkened forest landscape are flooded with light, enhancing the dreamy quality of the action. The dramatic performance and eerie narration gives the classic verse a contemporary twist. It’s Shakespeare, but not as you know it.

Newcomer Whitby is one half of the directorial duo Jamie & Jamie. Based in London, they specialise in promos, commercials and online content. The film is part of Channel 4’s Random Acts shorts programme and will be broadcast at midnight on Monday 18 September.
