Michael Jai White has teased a sequel to Scott Sanders’ blaxploitation-spoofing action comedy from 2009.

Listen up, you jive turkeys! There’s a smooth-talkin’, ass-kickin’ cat back in town and his name is Black Dynamite. On Tuesday 23 January, actor and renowned martial artist Michael Jai White dropped a 30-second teaser for what appears to be a follow-up to Scott Sanders’ blaxploitation parody from 2009 – and we couldn’t be more excited.

The original Black Dynamite saw White excel as the eponymous ex-CIA agent, who makes it his mission to clean up the streets and exact vengeance on The Man for the death of his brother.

We said: “From the production design and soundtrack to the muddy, messed-up grading, Black Dynamite feels as though it’s been recovered from a time-capsule and simply set free.” But despite the positive reviews and a popular Adult Swim spin-off cartoon, the film remains something of a cult gem.

We don’t yet know quite what this sequel will entail – this announcement came completely out of the blue – but in a year in which Marvel’s Black Panther is making his long-overdue big screen bow, it seems entirely fitting that the OG black superhero should return. Outta sight.
