Enter our latest creative brief inspired by this touching family drama.

We’re big fans of Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carell here at LWLies (you may recall Chalamet was the cover star of our Call Me by Your Name issue last summer). As such, we’re looking forward to the release of Felix Van Groeningen’s Beautiful Boy, which sees Carell and Chalamet take on the roles of father and son David and Nic Sheff, whose relationship is tested during Nic’s battle with methamphetamine addiction.

When the film premiered at Toronto Internation Film Festival we called it a triumph of performance and emotional nuance”, and on 18 January you can see it for yourselves in UK cinemas. To celebrate, we’re setting a new creative brief, with some excellent prizes.

For this brief, we’d like you to send us an original illustrated portrait of either Timothée Chalamet or Steve Carell as they appear in Beautiful Boy. Your entry can be as simple or as intricate as you like, but it must incorporate at least one of the following colours:

Three solid colour squares: dark green, bright orange, and bright blue, with their corresponding hexadecimal colour codes.

To help get you started, we’ve embedded the official UK trailer and quad poster below. Here’s the official synopsis:

Starring Academy Award® nominees Steve Carell (Foxcatcher, The Big Short) and Timothée Chalamet (Call Me by Your Name), Beautiful Boy is a deeply moving portrait of a family’s unwavering love and commitment to each other in the face of their son’s addiction and his attempts at recovery. As Nic repeatedly relapses, the Sheffs are faced with the harsh reality that addiction is a disease that does not discriminate and can hit any family at any time.

From the producers of Moonlight and 12 Years a Slave, and adapted from David and Nic Sheff’s best-selling memoirs by BAFTA Award winner Luke Davies (Lion), Beautiful Boy is a searingly honest account of the ways addiction can destroy lives and the power of love to rebuild them.

There will be one main winner and five runners-up for this competition. The main winner will receive a one-year subscription to Little White Lies magazine, a copy of David Sheff’s memoir Beautiful Boy’, a copy of Nic Sheff’s memoir Tweak’, a DVD bundle, a Beautiful Boy poster and a print of their artwork, as well as a pair of tickets to watch the film at a Curzon cinema of their choosing.
