To celebrate the release of Uncut Gems, starring a career-best Adam Sandler, video essayist Will Webb presents a beginner’s guide to the films of writer/director siblings Josh and Benny Safdie.

From their lo-fi 2009 sophomore effort Daddy Longlegs to 2017’s Good Time, the Safdies have gradually refined their DIY aesthetic and existential themes to create some of the boldest American independent cinema of the last decade.
