Nick Broomfield’s doc tells the tragic life story of this celebrated solo artist.

This new film biography explores Whitney Houston’s legendary career, troubled marriage to Bobby Brown and relationship with Robyn Crawford, creating a portrait of the woman behind the superstar.

Directed by Nick Broomfield, the maverick doc-maker responsible for Biggie and Tupac and Kurt & CourtneyCan I Be Me promises to offer a closer look at the life and death of one of the most celebrated female recording artists of all time.

Comprising largely unseen footage and live recordings, Broomfield’s film celebrates Houston’s talent while offering deeper insight into her fascinating personal life.

“What we tried to do was to explain it from her point of view, so you understand what she went through at various stages of her life,” he told the Guardian in a recent interview. “The irony is that the wonderful person she actually was is so much more interesting than the image that was created around her.”
