Watch the first trailer for gun control drama Miss Sloane

Words by Ewan Cameron

Jessica Chastain is a lobbyist looking to get tighter curbs on gun control in the US.

Jessica Chastain is amassing quite a portfolio of work at the moment. She’s filming the 19th Century female-led western, ‘Woman Walks Ahead’ with Sam Rockwell and director of ‘Generation Kill’, Susannah White. Also on her plate is the true story of a zoo that became a safe-haven during the Nazi occupation of Poland (‘The Zookeeper’s wife’) and ‘Molly’s Game’, Aaron Sorkin’s drama in which a former Olympian sets up a gambling ring. All that, and now add Miss Sloane to the pile.

In the evidence of this new trailer, she appears steely-eyed and driven, heading up an attack on American gun laws. Chastain plays a successful Washington DC lobbyist that starts a fight to pass a law calling for more rigorous background checks on firearm owner. She sacrifices her comfortable life and professional reputation to battle in one of the Western world’s most heated arenas.

Directed by John Madden (the man most recently behind ‘The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’), ‘Miss Sloane’ looks to be a fiery political thriller aiming to discuss America’s longest standing and most divisive debate. Chastain, having cemented her status as a take-no-nonsense fighter two years ago in war thriller ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, looks to offer an intriguing and tough performance as a soldier in the battlefield of political combat.
