Question: if you were able to physically enter into the world of Danny Boyle’s 1996 film Trainspotting, what would the characters say if you told them they’d be starring in a glossy sequel to their skaggy exploits? Ewan McGregor’s Mark Renton would likely tell you to f*ck off you fuckin’ shitebag weasel. Jonny Lee Miller’s Sick Boy would inform that you should go and ram yer fuckin’ heed right up yer fuckin’ asshole. Ewen Bremner’s Spud would say something unintelligible but expletive-ridden. And Robert Carlyle’s Begbie would say something un-repeatably blue before cracking a pint pot right over your solar plexus.
And yet, here we are, in 2016, and the boys are back in T2, directed by Boyle and written by John Hodge, who adapted the original feature from Irvine Welsh’s novel. Arrival time is 27 January, 2017, so best start heading to the correct platform – will be interesting to see if time and age have made the ’90s most quintessential heroine chic hipsters more or less fun.
