The first trailer for Sofia Coppola’s remake of Don Siegel’s 1971 film The Beguiled has landed, and it’s got us very, very excited. It sees Kirsten Dunst reunite with her Marie Antoinette and The Virgin Suicides director to play a woman who welcomes an injured Union solider into the Confederate all-girls’ boarding school where she resides.
Where Siegel’s film focused heavily on the Clint Eastwood character (played here by Colin Farrell), Coppola looks to have switched the focus to the young women whose close bond is threatened by the sudden presence of a man in their lives. Other than that this update looks pretty similar to the original, which is no bad thing.

Nicole Kidman, Angourie Rice and Elle Fanning also star, with the latter offering to show Farrell’s wounded infantryman some “real Southern hospitality”. With this trailer arriving somewhat unexpectedly, the smart money is on The Beguiled turning up in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Give the tantalising teaser a watch above and let us know your thoughts @LWLies
The Beguiled is set for release 14 July.
**Update – 19 April, 2017**
