Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter will air on Amazon Prime later this month.

Considering their sizeable contribution to the landscape of traditional animated storytelling, it’s pretty remarkable to think that Studio Ghibli had never produced an out-and-out kids’ show before 2014. Now rather excitingly, all 26 episodes of Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter are being imported for English-language audiences, having originally aired on Japanese television.

The series was directed by Goro Miyazaki (son of Hayao), who previously helmed the similarly family-oriented From Up on Poppy Hill and Tales of Earthsea. The story, about a young girl whose father is the chief of a tribe of bandits, is an adaptation of beloved Swedish children’s writer Astrid “Pippi Longstocking” Lindgren’s popular books of the same name. Gillian Anderson will serve as narrator in the newly dubbed version. Watch the delightful trailer above and let us know your thoughts @LWLies

Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter will be available to stream on Amazon Prime from 27 January.
