Sunao Katabuchi’s wartime drama follows a young girl in Hiroshima circa 1945.

Set during World War Two, Sunao Katabuchi’s historical drama follows Suzu, an 18-year-old newlywed who finds herself having to provide for her family despite the food shortage and US air raids.

The film is based Fumiyo Kōno’s acclaimed manga of the same name, in which the story takes place on the outskirts of Kure City, Hiroshima in the build-up to the atomic bombing of 1945.

This poignant trailer is tinged with melancholy, mostly presenting the beauty and simplicity of everyday life in Japan while making occasional few references to the bomb shelters and evacuation that disrupted it.

In This Corner of the World is in cinemas on 28 June.
