The Attack the Block director is readying his second feature, The Kid Who Would Be King.

It’s been six long years since Joe Cornish dropped his directorial debut Attack the Block, a sci-fi thriller in which aliens terrorise a block of council flats in South London.

From achieving cult success in television with his long-term cohort Adam Buxton, to working on screenplays for the likes of Edgar Wright and Steven Spielberg, Cornish has excelled at whatever he has turned his hand to. It’s a wonder we’ve had to wait until now for news of a second feature from him.

Attack the Block introduced the film world to British actor John Boyega, who subsequently shot to stardom as Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. According to The Kid Who Would Be King casting director Jessica Ronane’s recent post on Twitter, Cornish will once more be looking to unearth some talented young actors.

The tweet announces an open call for confident, smart kids of all shapes and sizes” for the lead roles, describing the film as a family fantasy action-adventure movie about a band of young kids embarking on an epic quest to thwart a medieval menace.”

Cornish has written the script and the film is being produced by Working Title and Big Talk Pictures (the latter of which backed Attack the Block). The Kid Who Would Be King is set to begin shooting this summer in the UK, which suggests a 2018 release date.
