There’s a familiar melancholy tone to the pair’s score for Taylor Sheridan’s mystery thriller.

In their most recent soundtrack collaboration, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis conjure the wild, desolate American landscape of Taylor Sheridan’s new film Wind River, which hits cinemas on Friday 8 September.

This album has a lingering emptiness and cyclical nature, with each track characterised by the melodic, melancholy tones so often associated with Cave’s music. Memories of his band’s 2016 record Skeleton Tree’ (produced by Ellis) are evoked here, as Cave continues to mourn the tragic loss of his son.

Cave and Ellis have received wide acclaim for their soundtracks to The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Road, Lawless and Hell or High Water, also written by Sheridan.

Wind River, which stars Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner, sees an FBI agent and a local veteran investigate the murder of a Native American. Listen to the stunning original score below…
