In September Sacred Bones Records announced the release of the debut LP from Thought Gang, the esoteric jazz side project of David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti which evolved from the seeds of Twin Peaks. Long considered a lost work, the album was recorded in the early ’90s sometime between the show’s second season and spin-off movie Fire Walk With Me. Lynch has remained somewhat coy on the project over the years, more recently describing the group’s sound as “jet-fuelled jazz”.
Now we’re excited to exclusively share two tracks from the Thought Gang album in the form of a surreal new audiovisual work directed by Lynch. The 13-minute promotional short, aptly titled ‘Ant Head’, originally premiered at the Festival of Disruption in Los Angeles last month, and this is the first time it’s being made available to a wider audience.
Album tracks ‘Frank 2000’ and ‘Woodcutters From Fiery Ships’ both appear in the video, which comprises a single black-and-white shot of a fleet of ants crawling all over a strange head-shaped object, set against a typically Lynchian, industrial backdrop. Lynch had this to say regarding the piece: “It is a short video featuring my friends the ants along with cheese, etc. and 1 1/2 tracks from the Thought Gang album.”
The Though Gang album is out now on Sacred Bones Records on LP, CD and Digital formats.
