Psycho roommates are set to return in an NBC-developed television reboot of the ’90s thriller Single White Female. The original 1992 film, based on the novel ‘SWF Seeks Same’ by John Lutz, follows Hedra Carlson (Jennifer Jason Leigh) as she infiltrates the life of Allison Jones (Bridget Fonda), gradually transforming from seemingly ideal housemate to murderous copycat.
The story will undergo a modern update, with Carlson as a con artist targeting the affluent Jones who is seeking a roommate in San Francisco, rather than the film’s New York setting. The good versus evil characterisation of Jones and Carlson in the original won’t be as clear cut on the small screen and the show promises to blur the line between the two to ask deeper questions about who is actually being “single white female’d”.
