A TV reboot of Sin­gle White Female is in the works

NBC have announced plans to update Bar­bet Schroeder’s erot­ic thriller from 1992.

Psy­cho room­mates are set to return in an NBC-devel­oped tele­vi­sion reboot of the ​’90s thriller Sin­gle White Female. The orig­i­nal 1992 film, based on the nov­el ​‘SWF Seeks Same’ by John Lutz, fol­lows Hedra Carl­son (Jen­nifer Jason Leigh) as she infil­trates the life of Alli­son Jones (Brid­get Fon­da), grad­u­al­ly trans­form­ing from seem­ing­ly ide­al house­mate to mur­der­ous copycat.

The sto­ry will under­go a mod­ern update, with Carl­son as a con artist tar­get­ing the afflu­ent Jones who is seek­ing a room­mate in San Fran­cis­co, rather than the film’s New York set­ting. The good ver­sus evil char­ac­ter­i­sa­tion of Jones and Carl­son in the orig­i­nal won’t be as clear cut on the small screen and the show promis­es to blur the line between the two to ask deep­er ques­tions about who is actu­al­ly being ​“sin­gle white female’d”.

Writer Eric Gar­cia has been signed on to exec­u­tive pro­duce and take charge of the script but there is no word on a release date just yet. We’ll keep you updat­ed as and when we learn more.
