This darkly funny tale announces its creator as a major comedic talent.

Adapted from his 2016 Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning short film of the same name (in turn named for a Bruce Springsteen song), Jim Cummings’ Thunder Road tells the story of a hapless police officer in smalltown Texas who’s trying to come to terms with the death of his mother.

At the same time, he’s dealing with a messy divorce, and trying to be a good father to his young daughter. It’s a scrappy, often hilarious and infinitely charming debut from the multi-hyphenate star.

We were big fans of the film when it played at the BFI London Film Festival in November last year, and spoke to Cummings at the time about his creative process and the challenges of self-distributing a feature film.

Check out the brand new UK trailer below and see Thunder Road in cinemas on 31 May.
