He’s taking it nice and easy in Harmony Korine’s follow-up to Spring Breakers.

That faint hint of marijuana in the air? That’s just Harmony Korines latest film, The Beach Bum, sparking up its new red-band trailer.

As extremely chilled-out protagonist Moondog, Matthew McConaughey is a part-time poet, full-time cannabis disposal system, and lifelong hedonist. Korine’s street cred has drawn a cast of big names to accompany Mr Hey-Hey-Hey himself, including Isla Fisher, Jonah Hill, Zac Efron, Snoop Dogg, Martin Lawrence, and Jimmy Buffett.

The trailer would rather throw a flurry of striking images at you – a thong-clad Moondog ambling out of a hot tub, slo-mo belly flopping into a swimming pool, cackling as he drives hands-free – than reveal too much plot. But it would seem that our drug-addled hero has gotten himself in hot water with the law, though he doesn’t seem all the bothered by his situation. He’s too busy planning the gang-bang for when he gets out.

It’s an exceptionally well-assembled trailer, making the most out of the verdant Floridian scenery last seen in Korine’s crossover hit Spring Breakers and putting Eumir Deodato’s jazzy arrangement of Also Sprach Zarathustra” through its paces. (We also hear traces of Crimson and Clover” by Tommy James and Shondells, the soundtrack cut from the previously released clip.) Looks like it’s about time for cinephiles to get their gas-mask bongs out of storage.

The Beach Bum will première at South by Southwest, before opening in US theaters on 29 March.
