Cecil Beaton’s stunning behind-the-scenes portraits are being exhibited by Sotheby’s.

To have been a fly on the wall of the 1970 London-set experimental gangster film Performance, directed by Nicolas Roeg and Donald Cammell. In it James Fox plays a proper naughty cockney geezer who’s forced to lay low in Holland Park and ends up bunking with an androgenous libertine played by Mick Jagger. Slowly but surely their personalities begin to merge and through the magic of editing, they exchange personas.

Luckily for us, the photographer and Oscar-winning designer Cecil Beaton was on hand to take snaps on the set of Perfomance, which are going to be presented at Sotheby’s S|2 gallery in London. The exhibition is Sotheby’s first dedicated sale of Beaton’s photographs and fifteen images will be on offer as limited edition modern platinum prints produced from the original negatives. The show is open to the public from 25 November until 23 December. Full details for the show can be found here.
