When it comes to shooting movies on real, tangible, sparkling film stock, director Christopher Nolan is no slouch. He’s also a big fan of the enormous, enveloping effect that comes with the IMAX screen, consistently pushing boundaries by making films with the most IMAX-shot sequences.
His new one, Dunkirk, was shot on wide-gauge 65mm film and will be projected in select cinemas around the UK in glorious 70mm. (You can read more about the film in our latest print edition.)

For those who have visited an IMAX screen in the last few months, you may have seen the incredible 70mm teaser for the film, which tells of the infamous military evacuation of the small French coastal town during the early years of World War Two.
The film will likely be screening in a cinema near you when it’s released nationwide on Friday 21 July, but those wanting to make a day out of it might want to take a trip to your nearest 70mm-equipped picture palace, or even opt for the full IMAX experience.
