This year’s Raindance Film Festival gets underway in September, and to get you in the mood the festival organisers have released this delightful tribute to Steven Spielberg, who celebrates his 70th birthday this year. Directed by award-winning Brazilian filmmaker, Filippo Capuzzi Lapietra, who won a Young Director Award during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the trailer speaks to the inner child in all of us, taking us on a journey from when we first discovered the film that ignited our passion for the art form.
Lapietra’s script for the trailer is based on Spielberg’s 2010 Academy Award speech, in which he shared some of his cinematic inspirations. Scenes from several of the director’s films are recreated in the trailer, including a dinosaur from Jurassic Park and a key battle scene from Escape to Nowhere, a 40-min film he directed when he was just 14.
A champion of independent filmmaking, Raindance is the largest of its kind in Europe, showcasing feature, documentary and short films, as well as music videos and digital media. The programme for this year’s Raindance Film Festival will be announced on Thursday 25 August. Check out the trailer above
The 24th annual Raindance Film Festival runs 21 September to 2 October in London’s West Endor. For more info visit raindancefestival.org
