Damien Chazelle’s La La Land gets a heavenly first trailer

There’s a dash of Old Hollywood magic in the melodious first trailer for Damien Chazelle’s third feature. La La Land sees Crazy, Stupid, Love (and Gangster Squad, but let’s not focus on that) co-stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling reunite to play an aspiring Hollywood actress and a jazz pianist respectively.

Notably softer in both texture and tone than Chazelle’s Oscar-sweeping 2014 film, Whiplash, this looks an altogether more bittersweet affair, with the piano ballad Gosling plays filled with romance and melancholy. La La Land is set for its world premiere on 31 August at the Venice Film Festival. Watch Gosling and Stone waltz in silhouette against a starry backdrop and prepare to fall in love.
