Woody Allen’s Café Society gets a delectable first trailer

You never quite know what you’re gonna get with Woody Allen. The prolific veteran filmmaker has a knack of pulling a gem out of the bag when you least expect it, and that’s the early vibe we’re getting from his new one, Café Society.

Set in 1930s Hollywood, the film concerns the nephew of a high-profile producer who moves to Los Angeles in the hope of making his name in the film industry. Jesse Eisenberg plays the young man in question, who quickly falls in with the glamorous café society scene where he meets (and falls in love with) Kristen Stewart’s studio assistant, Vonnie. It looks like a typically breezy stroll through the Golden Age of Hollywood, with Allen bringing his trademark acerbic wit to the party (“this whole town runs on ego,” “you’ve never heard of me, I’m a writer”).
